Styling and customising your room is essential when you begin to create a sense of style yourself. Here we have taken some photos of how we store and present our make-up and beauty essentials.
The first tip I can give you is to keep ornaments or objects that are sentimental or special to you in some way on show because it makes your room become cosy and a nice place to relax. Also, they may come in handy with storage such as a place to keep earrings.
The second tip is to collate and collect a collection of nice trinkets, jars etc. For example I used a pencil pot from Paperchase (purple with elephants on) to store make-up brushes and other items I use daily. It gives your room a tidier set-up with all your belongings having a place to be kept. Be sure that the colours are suitable to your room's aroma because it will give a mature and sophisticated vibe but don't stay safe- use whatever you want because after all it is YOUR room!
My third tip is that I advise you to put some of your make-up in drawers or cabinets because it keeps your room tidier and less busy; also giving more room for the new products you venture out to buy. Both of us have wooden second-hand bought chest of drawers because they look slightly vintage and it's nice to have things that aren't all acrylic and plastic nowadays! They also have a lot of room inside and out, perfect for storing most of your clothes and most of your body products too. Also providing a pretty mirror that is essential when getting ready.
My fourth tip is that you NEED a theme for your room. Mine is pink and pretty because it's calm and it's a good excuse to buy more pink, girly things! My room consists of cute homemade bunting, loads of pretty blankets and anything pink or pretty I can find. Ideal places to buy these sorts of things are Cath Kidston, charity shops and girly gift shops which are very common around seaside towns in England. Don't buy too much stuff but if you've got a lot of products, you're going to have to invest in a lot of storage places. Another item I have in my room all the time are candles because I find the scent relaxing as well as pleasant when you have friends or guests round. Another thing that I love having in my room are fairy lights because if you're in your room in the evening, having these lights on is so cosy and provides subtle lighting for reading books, relaxing and also sleepovers.
And finally my fifth tip is to personalise your room with whatever you love because it's your only place where everything belongs to you and where you get to choose exactly what you want. I have many objects from childhood holidays which I've kept for probably too long; but they do come in handy! I also have loads of photos of me and my friends and family because they bring back happy memories and they look pretty in a cute photo frame or in a collage on your wall. Place posters on your wall of something you love or is interesting to look at. I have a poster of an old fashioned map on my wall and I hope to build up a collection of retro maps of where I want to visit when I'm older. Things like these make your room yours!
To conclude, I hope you have found this useful and interesting of how I decorate my room. Remember to personalise your room with the things you love and think of a theme to make choosing items easier. Enjoy! :)
